Welcome to the world of K'Lah Jenay
A native of the west and south suburbs outside of Chicago. I received my B.A. in Africana Studies (with a minor in History) from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
A Vocalist and Musician. Trained in percussion since the age 8 and vocals since 6, my love for music has been a passion most humans will never get to experience. I enjoy Jazz, Hip-Hop, Neo-Soul and R&B. Some of my influences include: Billie Holiday, Jill Scott, Amy Winehouse, Jhene Aiko, Jasmine Sullivan, Nina Simone, Etta James and Eryka Badu.
A Spokenword Artist and Poet. My words are the voices my ancestors conjured in their creation of the future. My poetry, both spoken and written, always reflect on Black love, Black life, Black knowledge, black history, black theory and culture. Writing is a freedom my people died to attain. Why let is waste? My influences include: Sonia Sanchez, Claude McKay, Langston Huges, Audre Lorde, Zora Neale-Hurston, Lucielle Clifton, Alice Dunbar-Nelson and Margaret Walker.
